“Art with a Heart”, the 7th Alay Sining all-sculpture exhibit-sale of the Rotary Club of Makati West (RCMW), will run from November 27 to 30, 2014 at The Gallery in Greenbelt 5, Makati City.
It will feature works of Ramon Orlina, Joe Datuin, Eduardo Castrillo, Ral Arrogante, Ferdie Cacnio, and Jun Vicalso, as well as pieces from rising artists, ranging from a handful of thousand pesos to the millions.
Proceeds from the art exhibit will fund the Gift of Life International (GOLI) Foundation beneficiaries – poor kids needing surgeries for congenital heart diseases.
Already, the foundation has shouldered the operation cost of more than 300 heart patients in the Philippines. Yearly, it helps 30 to 40 Filipino kids get free heart surgery and treatment.
About 17,000 of the 1.7M babies born in the country per annum have congenital heart defects ranging from a small hole in the heart to more acute cases. Each would require P750,000 to P1 million for heart surgery.
Worse, 94 percent of these cases are from families that cannot afford treatment.
Hence, “I’m happy to use my talent to aid the helpless,” says contributing artist Cacnio, who himself suffered a heart attack last year.
