About

me n my tig

Although Manila is not the city that gave me birth, it’s the one city that possessed me for life.

The only man I ever loved, my father, was a true-blue Manilenyo.

I was born in the city his great grandfathers founded, Lucena, the capital of Quezon.

But Pa sent me off to his birth city, the capital of the Philippines, to study. He decreed I should put down my roots here.

I never regretted it, anyway.

I’ve spent most of my life here as an economic journalist, writing for the Manila Bulletin’s Business Section since 1999, covering Telecommunication, Transportation and Information Technology. Before, I have covered Real Estate, Banking and Finance, Energy, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Board of Investments and the private sector for other national broadsheets.

I’ve been a columnist for Manila Bulletin’s Lifestyle Section as well, since 2011, with a regular Sunday column, “My World In a Flashpack”. Todate, I’ve visited 83 countries and 6 continents – more than enough to fill several adventure books.

I’ve been the subject of news stories myself at least twice – in 2008, when I mounted my first one-woman art exhibit of oil paintings in Makati (http://cerphin.net/balita/Natures-Sprites-shows-off-Angel-Art/source/92358/) and in 2013, when I was featured as a traveller (http://outoftownblog.com/featured-traveler-emmie-abadilla/).

Of course, I have countless interests. I’ve taught myself how to paint even before I learned how to write, experimenting with oils, watercolors, tempera, pastels, acrylic and mixed media. I write poetry, short stories, one-act and three-act plays as well as novels in both Pilipino and English.

I took my M.A. in Theater Arts at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, was a company actress of Teatro Pilipino, Cultural Center of the Philippines and did overseas stints for the Metropolitan Dance Theater Group before I pursued newspapering.

And while I’ve put up a separate blog for my business and ICT stories in “TECHNOLADY”, I’m putting my Lifestyle blogs here, in “MANILENYA”.

This is where I wish to share with everyone the wonderful life I live in this beautiful city, in my awesome country, in this extraordinary world!

  1. Hi Emmie

I enjoyed browsing through your blog. Very interesting places you’ve actually been to, and your film reviews are spot on.

Thank you for this chance to have a glimpse of your “other” life.

Hope to have coffee with you soon so I can hear more of your adventure stories… in person.

    Take care,

    Joel Lumanlan

  2. Hi Emmie,

Awesome article about the talismans. I was wondering where was this exhibit held?
I would also would like to invite you to our upcoming paranormal tours if interested. 🙂

    • Hi, Jason,
Thanks for your comment. The talisman exhibit was held at the Yuchengco Museum. Sure, I’d LOVE to come to your paranormal tours! However, I’ll be overseas from next week till around first week of November. I’ll be free by the second week of November 🙂

  3. just like to comment bout the antings. “people die because the one wearing the anting used it in a wrong & bad ways” thats the reason why they died in the first place. pero gamitin mo sa kabutihan at mananatiling walang hanggan ang buhay mo until you reach a certain age na kelangan mo ng mamaalam. walang tao na immortal but use the amulet at the right motivation & purpose. eedad ka ng 150 yrs old n parang 20yrs old lng lakas mo. believe me. have seen & witness it myself & i myself used it at mrming benefits. tao lang din ng-dadala ng ikapapahamak nila pag dating s anting,. oh by the way nd anting twag dyan but “spiritual”…. kung nd mo nga alam pasikot sikot at di ka naniniwala at for collection lng at nd k p nkrnas/kita ng tunay. well anting nga itatawag mo…. just a comment lng bro.
